On 18 April 2024, the European Commission adopted new rules for issuing multiple entry visas to Indian nationals. These rules are more favourable than the standard Visa Code rules used previously. The new "cascade" system makes it easier for Indian nationals with a good travel history to get multi-year Schengen visas. To qualify, applicants must have lived in India and legally used two Schengen visas within the last three years. If they meet these criteria and have valid passports, they can receive long-term multiple-entry visas.

Canada’s Proposed Changes to International Student Program news on 22 July 2024

01 Aug, 2024     Student Visa, Canada

Canada’s Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) suggests that international students need a new permit to transfer between Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs). Students must apply for this permit before starting at a new school but can stay at their current one while waiting for approval. This change aims to improve oversight because DLIs are managed by provinces, making it difficult for the federal government to enforce rules. Currently, DLIs follow provincial regulations, and the federal government cannot ensure that each school follows new admission rules. This proposal aims to make it easier for the federal government to manage and monitor student transfers.

A survey by the European Labour Authority identified 20 occupations that are experiencing a shortage, such as security guards, teachers, doctors, engineers, and bus drivers. Foreign workers now have more options in a variety of fields, including nursing, dentistry, psychology, mechanics, systems analysis, law enforcement, and water treatment operations. These shortfalls point to a high need for foreign nationals with the necessary skills to fill pivotal roles that will support the smooth operation of vital services and advance the Swedish economy as a whole.
