Canada is changing work permit rules for Spousal
Open Work Permits (SOWPs). Only spouses of highly skilled workers, such as
executives, scientists, engineers, and professionals in areas with labor
shortages, will be eligible. This is expected to reduce the number of SOWPs by
100,000 over the next three years. The changes aim to focus on workers with
critical skills while supporting Canada’s labor needs.
