On August 27, 2024, the European Commissioner for
Home Affairs announced that the Entry/Exit System (EES) will start on November
10, 2024. This system will require non-EU travelers to register their
bio metric information when crossing EU borders for the first time. The EES aims
to enhance border security and replace passport stamps. Additionally, the
European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS), a visa waiver
program for non-EU citizens, is expected to launch in early 2025. Both EES and
ETIAS will affect most non-EU travelers, including British nationals, visiting
the EU for short stays.
