August 16, 2024, Croatia announced that nearly 20,000 work permits are being
issued monthly to foreigners to address domestic labour shortages. According to
the Croatian Interior Ministry, most permits are granted for employment
purposes. By the end of July 2024, Croatia had issued 132,000 work permits,
suggesting it could match last year’s totals in just two months. Between
January and July 2024, over 85,000 residence permits were issued, alongside
32,000 permit extensions. The country is also seeing a rise in seasonal
workers, with 15,000 seasonal work permits issued so far this year.
