International students in the US can
work while studying. They can do internships through Curricular Practical
Training (CPT) during their studies. Optional Practical Training (OPT) lets
students work in jobs related to their field of study, either during or after
graduation. STEM students can apply for a longer OPT of up to 36 months. F-1
students can work on campus with permission from their school’s Designated
School Official (DSO). Off-campus work is also possible if it’s related to
their studies. Students can work 20 hours a week during classes and full-time
during school breaks.
